Very refreshing take. I think what you are describing as “fear” could also be framed as “genuinely caring for people.”

We are largely in a place right now where the problem being solved is masked in the faux-morality of “what is the person struggling with” but is really “what is keeping us from making more money for shareholders.” Capitalism is useless when it shifts to destroying the lives of many to add more unnecessary comforts to the lives of a select few… an ironic ouroboros in an economy dependent on consumer spending.

To change this, the root of the issue needs to be addressed. My take on the root is, it's people's desire for more. This desire drives investors and entrepreneurs to increase returns at the expense of anything else.

Why do they have a desire for more? It gives them status, which they seek to overcome some sort of rejection of their identity in their childhood. Status can only be judged comparatively, i.e against other people, so at a population level, this makes status seeking a never ending flywheel.

A potential solution to this would be to withdraw status for those who desire more than they need to live a fulfilling life. Cut the wealthiest people lists, stop admiring those who are chasing such goals, etc.

If there wasn't any status wrapped up in making incredible amounts of money, people wouldn't prioritise it. They would prioritise other things - hopefully better things!
